Nina Kennedy, in her role as concert pianist, hosts this episode of The Noshing with Nina Show in Vienna, Austria, where she has been invited to film a music video. We witness her visit to one of the oldest cathedrals in Central Europe, the summer palace of the Austro-Hungarian emperors, and the Vienna State Opera House. Nina interviews the manager of the showroom for the Austrian piano maker Bösendorfer, who shows us the pianos owned by Oscar Peterson, Leonard Bernstein, and Michael Jackson.

For this new episode of The Noshing with Nina Show, Nina sits down with Hip-Hop lyricist and rap performer Nejma Nefertiti. The two have a lively discussion about Nejma’s career in the Hip-Hop world, her family background and influences, her current and future projects. Nina and Nejma collaborated on a trap/classical (“trapsical”) single titled “Blue White and Red,” the broadcast premiere of which is presented during this show. Nejma’s music videos are presented throughout the show, including videos of her collaborations with Afro Yaqui Music Collective and La Bruja.

 

This powerful Hip Hop/theater artist, sound designer, and audio engineer is also a songwriter, producer, and natural perfumer. Nejma Nefertiti utilizes hip hop and technology as tools to empower black, brown, and first nation youth for generations to come. Her revolutionary matriarchal legacy is to create awareness, inspiration, and social change throughout the entire world, for all oppressed peoples.

Mariska Phillips

Actress, Acting Coach, and Theatre Director

Brooklyn Native and founder of the Marishka Phillips Theatrical Preparatory, Marishka Phillips appeared in a European tour of RAISIN at age 13. By the age of 19, she landed a featured role and understudy to the star on Broadway, in the musical UPTOWN: IT’S HOT, directed by Maurice Hines. She went on to perform in such musicals as BUBBLIN’ BROWN SUGAR, FAME: THE MUSICAL, THE WIZ and THE ME NOBODY KNOWS. When living in Los Angeles, she did character work and was the stand-in actress on the last two seasons of A DIFFERENT WORLD, the spin-off of THE COSBY SHOW, in which she also appeared.

Jen Roit & Leetal Plat

Jen Roit graduated from NYU Tisch and began a diverse dance career with Jennifer Archibald/Arch Dance Company, Nathan Trice/Rituals, Mark Dendy, Transcendance Group, and Daniel Holt/DIRT. Offstage, she is the editor for Dance Magazine’s College Guide. She choreographed the piece presented at "The Noshing with Nina Show" inspired by the fashion line worn by the dancers and designed by Leetal Platt. Leetal's work has graced the runways of El Paseo Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week, and has been featured by the Press on several occasions including "Rolling Stone," MTV, "Los Angeles Daily News," "Womens Wear Daily," and "Fashion Times"- JUST TO NAME A FEW.

Ella Sheppard School of Music; Fisk Jubilee Heritage Awards

Former Fisk Jubilee Singer and founder of the Ella Sheppard School of Music George Cooper sits down with Nina Kennedy to discuss the history of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, the Fisk Jubilee Heritage Awards, the founding of the Ella Sheppard School of Music, and the need for early childhood music education. In this episode, Nina directs the current Fisk Jubilee Singers in a master class on her father’s arrangement of the Spiritual “Steal Away.” She revisits her childhood on the Fisk campus.

Reviewing the documentary of Host Nina Kennedy's father

Host Nina Kennedy is also the filmmaker of this award-winning documentary, and the daughter of pianist Matthew Kennedy, who was also known for his work as director of the world-renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers. She introduces various clips of the film, filling background details and information. The audience will enjoy this musical and historical journey.

Xav A. performed with the Dartmouth Aires on season three of NBC's a cappella competition The Sing-Off! Since performing with the group, Xav has focused on bearing his soul through his Pop/R&B sound.

 

Xav A. has also had the honor of singing the National Anthem for a rally for President Obama in Durham, NH in 2012.  Nina sat down with Xav to discuss his journey from the school stage to the national stage.

2018 Poetic Address to the Nation

The Culmination of The 2018 People's State of the Union

In season one, NWN hosted the 2018 People’s State of the Union, giving everyday citizens the opportunity to share some of their personal experiences having to do with our chosen topics of discussion, including the environment, injustice and inequality, the health of the nation, and the women’s movement. Some of the participants were selected to create the 2018 Poetic address to the Nation for a national broadcast in April of 2018 of an evening presented at Joe’s Pub in Manhattan. In this episode of NWN, we show some clips from that evening. NWN won the BRICtv B FREE 1st Amendment Award for this episode.

World Pride 2019

The Stonewall 50th Anniversary Celebration

​​June 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, and the arrival of World Pride in New York City. As part of this celebration, ​Nina shares her favorite dance club mixes with you to celebrate World Pride. At the end of the program you will be treated to the broadcast premiere of the brand new dance hit called “It’s World Pride” by INFEMNITY - a collaboration with BLove @Dug-In-Productions, written by April Gibson, and featuring Nina Kennedy, who welcomes revelers in 10 languages.

This edition of NWN features Red Carpet arrivals for the New York Women in Film and Television’s 2017 & 2018 Muse Awards. Host Nina Kennedy interviews Sarah Jessica Parker, Ellen Burstyn, filmmaker Julie Dash, and CBS This Morning’s Nancy Giles, among others. Clips from the 2019 B Free Awards are also featured, and April Gibson’s documentary There’s A Place For Us: Dixon Place is shown in its entirety. A music video of Nina Kennedy’s piano performance closes the show.

Reel Sisters International Festival 2018

Established in 1997, Reel Sisters is dedicated to providing opportunities for women of color filmmakers to advance their careers in the film industry. “The Noshing with Nina Show” was on hand to talk with producers and directors selected for the 2018 Reel Sisters International Film festival, celebrating its first year as an Oscar qualifying festival.

Luis Santiero

Television Screenwriter

​Luis Santeiro was born in Havana, and moved to Miami with his family when he was twelve. He’s a long-time resident of New York City, as well as a long-time writer of Sesame Street, for which he has received twenty Emmy Awards. He was head writer for the PBS series “Que Pasa, USA?”, the first bilingual sitcom on national television, for which he earned another Emmy. “Que Pasa?” has become the “I Love Lucy” of the Cuban diaspora, and is still aired frequently, more than thirty years after its premier. Luis has also written for the theatre, where his plays include “Praying with the Enemy” and “Land O’Fire,” both winners of the National Latino Playwriting Award, and “Our Lady of the Tortilla,” which has enjoyed hundreds of productions across the country. Other honors bestowed upon Luis include the Hispanic Heritage Award (Kennedy Center), Hispanic Achievement Award, National Hispanic Academy of Media Arts and Sciences Theatre Achievement Award, F.A.C.E. Excellence Award, and the Aurora Award.

Niamh McCann

Contemporary Artist

​A contemporary artist based in Dublin, Ireland, Niamh has a diverse and playful collection that includes sculpture, installation, painting and video. She explores philosophical conundrums through seemingly random visual juxtapositions and spatial relationships, looking toward themes of travel, globalization and urbanization within very particular social and political contexts. 

 

Using everyday objects and images from the contemporary urban environment, Niamh makes visible poetry of chance connections, whimsy and paradox. She alters found materials and then reconfigures them to create works as alternate scenarios or landscapes to question the ordinary, everyday occurrences.

Mona Webb

Afro-Creek Queer Scholar

​Mona is a conservatory-trained artist who writes and performs in docu-ritual drama theater, a documentary and ritual theater hybrid. She recently graduated from California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco and The University of Chichester in Chichester, England with dual MFA degrees in Theater Performance Making.
